M&Buffalo green suede nail polish

You might have noticed that Manhattan made a collaboration with Buffalo. I noticed a great nail polish that differs from every other nail polish I own, so I bought it.

manhattanandbuffalogreen

And I discovered that it doesn’t really have a name on it’s bottle. So I call it suede green.

Becomes opaque with 2 layers. Completely chip-free for 2 days, well for me at leastKurb naerunägu. I also used my Essie fastest drying top coat.

I really wanted to see how it looked with my Attitude X nail polish in 2217 Tropical Waters, which is a great colour but doesn’t become opaque even with 4 layers. Can be worn on it’s own only with really short nails as the nail white will not show then.

nails280711

So this is the outcome, a bit more summery than the suede green, not quite sure I’m feelin’ it.

I’m kind of craving dark/murky nail polishes at the moment.

I have to say, I’ve been really enjoying the weather right now… There have been ferocious thunder storms on and off for 3 days. Maybe ferocious is a bit exaggerated, but still.. thunderstorms, heavy rainfalls. Now I just wish I lived in a penthouse to be able to watch the amazingness.

Oriflame Skin Perfect Foundation review

skinperfect

As you can see, I had it in Natural Beige and the colour in real life is very close to the one on the picture.

I’ll just try to keep it short and sweet.

The positive stuff

  • Quite long-lasting
  • Good packaging. Not exactly luxurious, but comfortable to use, doesn’t waste product as you have total control over how much product you dispense.
  • Cheap
  • Easy to blend and doesn’t look like a mask.
  • Medium coverage

The negative stuff

  • Anti-fatigue complex promoted on the package means that it has tiny glitter particles in it. So if looking like a glitter ball isn’t your aim, ditch it.

Overall rating

Finish 1/5

Consistency 4,2/5

Longevity 4/5

Packaging 4,4/5

Final rating 3,4 out of 5.

That’s all, folks.

With love,

Janne

It’s all about the temperature

So, it’s 2.12 AM and I just took a shower.. and there was no hot water. But that’s okay, because I actually enjoy cold showers.. occasionally. I have heard that it’s good for you and everything but how exactly and why? No idea.
So.. I got curious, did some research and found some really good articles. And I thought that it would be a great idea to tell you too why cold showers are good for you.
Now.. you can read the actual article from here. I’ll just try to keep it short and tell you the basics. (in case you’re too lazy to read the article)

  1. Better Circulation
Apparently warm water makes your blood rush to your skin, and cool water makes the blood rush to your organs. This switching between hot and cold triggers better circulation in your blood by forcing the blood to move. Now.. they actually suggest to swich several times between hot and cold water. I usually just end my showers with cold water.
  2. Better looking skin
This was the thing I actually knew before. Warm water opens up pores, cold water closes them. (before and after face masks etc) And well, logically it works the same with rest of the body. (very impressive, I know-I know)
Also really-really hot water dries out skin and can irritate it or even make it itchy, so cold water for the win!
Wait.. there’s more! Cold water makes your blood vessels constrict which reduces swelling and the appearance of dark circles under your eyes.
  3. Healthier hair
Cold water makes your hair look healthier and shinier. (cool air too)
What the cold water does is that it closes the cuticle which makes the hair stronger and prevents dirt from easily accumulating within your scalp. Stronger hair prevents hair from being easily pulled out.
  4. Mental benefits
In the mornings, cold water helps waking you up, energizes you, can relieve depression and makes you feel great and fresh!

As the summer in Estonia is quite hot atm (for us, ha-ha), I personally love to take at least one cold shower during the day! And you should do the same!

Sweet dreams,
Andra

Nails 21/7/11

I have found the most gorgeous nail polish. Think black base and ruby glitter, that’s China Glaze Lubu Heels for ya!

chinaglazelubuheels

Now it will be perfectly opaque in 3 layers. And you will have to apply top coat, as it will shine a lot more that way, it’s a bit too bland without it and sadly it doesn’t last very long. I could wear it for 2 days with a base and top coat (I have 0 tolerance for chipping). Not good, but since I love it so, I have to re-apply it.

And since it has glitter in it, it is shit to remove it.

Not the most summery shade, but I adore it.

Fits perfectly with my nude toenails. Nude toenails for the win, seriously. I love it, I never want to go back.

And while browsing the Net, I found another China Glaze nail polish that is calling my name.

It is from China Glaze Metro collection, which is China Glazes collection for Fall 2011, contains 12 gorgeous colours. My love was Midtown Magic, pretty similar to Lubu Heels in concept. This fall I’m going to rock darker nail polishes.

Brothers manicure idea+ Egyptian make up

Yesterday I was lacking inspiration for my manicure, so I asked my brother. He has a red phase- he wanted red sunglasses, shorts and today he dyed the tips of his Mohawk red.

And this is what he recommended doing

nails150711

He would have liked the nails to be white and not nude, but I don’t have a decent white nail polish. This is my dominant hand and I didn’t use the French manicure tip stickers or tape so it’s a bit imperfect.

And… My brother knows what a French manicure looks like. He actually said the phrase “French manicure” before I could teach him. I’m so proud, he really can bring tears to my eyes some times.

And today I submitted my look for Make Up Geeks Weekly Make Up Challenge. It’s all about Egypt.

At first I had this basic Egyptian eye in mind.

algnecleo

But that’s waaaaaay too plain, right?

So I added some details.

cleoeyecut

cleoface

Pretty cool, in my opinion. I like to take part in those challenges, otherwise there is no progress and even if I do experiment, I won’t do it as a look, I  make a smoky black and green combo on one lid and a purple mess on the other. So I can’t wait for the next challenge.

And today, I played with oil paint. I mixed it with linseed oil as recommended and it was like painting with a dream. I hope I will finish this project soon, I have put it off for almost a year now and I really want to show it to you guys.

Bye for now,

Janne.

Hair & nails

Since I don’t have any access to beauty stores and I’m very lazy, I haven’t posted anything for a while. So that’s why I decided to show you my current nails and hairdo. Nothing special, so don’t get excited.

P7130022

This is MIYO Grape and I LOVE THAT NAIL POLISH WITH ALL MY HEART. No but seriously, I just had to share this with you. In my opinion, it looks perfect when you have nails like I do atm. Oh and did I already mention that I really love this nail polish?

P7130013 P7130025

Now about the hair. I’m not really into braids and stuff. I usually just wash my hair, comb them and I’m ready to roll. But today I found this little pink machine. It was a gift from my granny a really long time ago. And I decided to try it finally. So there we have it, A BRAID. And since my bangs are shorter, I later used some bobby pins to control them and for a while I had a pretty decent hairdo. Was fun, hehe.

Love,
Andra

alfajores

           Alfajores de Dulce de Leche

Here’s what you need to make a bit over 20 sandwich cookies.

  • 250ml corn starch
  • 200ml flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 100g butter (room temperature)
  • 150ml sugar
  • 3 egg yolks (if you have large eggs, use 2)
  • 400g can of condensed milk
  • icing sugar
  1. Put the can of condensed milk (the kind with real sugar and milk) into a cooking pot, covered with water. Boil for 2,5-3 hours to make it more solid. Be aware that the water will evaporate so be sure to add water from time to time. Let the can cool.
  2. Sift together corn starch, flour and baking powder.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar. Add egg yolks one at a time.
  4. Add sifted powder ingredients into the butter mixture with an electric mixer.
  5. Preheat oven 180* Celsius.
  6. Roll dough 6mm thick, use a cookie cutter or a cup to make even circles, mind you this dough is quite difficult to operate with, well at least for me. And stick them into the oven. Bake for 10-15 min, until bottoms are golden, yet the top is pale.
  7. Put a teaspoon of condensed milk between the cookies, sift some icing sugar on top and you have a gorgeous super-delicious treat. Don’t make them ahead, as the cookies will get too soft.

Stay cool,

Janne.

Salon+ –40%

This is about a sale at an Estonian hair care store so it’s going to be in Estonian.

Olge tublid,

Janne.

Desperate times call for desperate measures

I have been really bummed for the last week or so.. I think it might be because I’m really trying to cut down on buying make up or nail polish.

Like… The first couple of days I just spent alone at my place, searching for new products to buy online, creating wish lists on the computer and in my head. Too much temptation lies behind my doorstep. Actually, I may over dramatize the whole ordeal, but I felt really depressed.

Now I’ve been working pretty much straight from those couple of blue days mentioned before and haven’t had a chance to splurge for… 7 days. Seems like eternity and I haven’t felt like myself for the whole week though it has gotten a lot better.

But I don’t really consider myself as a shopaholic. I think it may be psychological -- once you are forbade from something, you really-really crave it.

But I do have a day off on Friday and I need to buy a new face cream (if you have anything pretty cheap and for normal/comb young skin to recommend, please do. I feel like trying sth new out). So I hope I don’t go crazy since there are sales everywhere.

And this is why I really-really lack inspiration. I can’t think of anything to write for you guys.

So if you have any requests, please don’t hesitate to comment.
