EOTD 11/11/11: Patriotic Friday

Today is Estonia’s playoff game against Ireland. And because of that, BLUE is the highly suggested colour for today, at least in Estonia. Since I don’t have any blue clothing items (except my jeans) I decided to dress in black and express my patriotism on my eyelids. So here you go, football inspired eyes and a little addition on my chest.

Moon Manicure and my favourite base/top coat

nails030811-final

It came out kind of Christmas-y, but oh well..

moonstickers

I would really like to get my hands on the real moon manicure stickers.

Which, as you can see are in the shape of perfect circles.

What I did luckily manage to get my hands on a golden nail polish. It’s from Rimmel London and it’s called 525 Gold’n Rock. It was 4 Euros and has a domed brush which helps with the application, but the application is by no means 1 second long, that’s just marketing BS.

Now on to my favourite top/base coat,

It is Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle, now I had this nearly 2 years ago, but didn’t repurchase simply because I lacked the means, it has quite a hefty price tag of 12 Euros. Makes the manicure very long-lasting, has a high-shine finish and makes nails very strong. I’ve had the longest natural nails with this polish, a definite A+ from me.

Hope everyone is well.

With love,

Janne.

FOTD 11/07/11 and the best cookies ever

Well hello, lovelies!

Here is my face of the day.

fotd110711

Products used:

Face

  • Oriflame beauty Skin Perfect foundation in Natural Beige
  • Grimas Fixing Powder
  • BeYu blusher 115
  • Bourjois Delice de Soleil in nr 14 Olive/ Tanned skin

Eyes

  • GOSH waterproof eye shadow base
  • Rimmel London Glam’ Eyes quad eye shadow in 002 Smokey Brun (move over Loreal Paris Quad Pro in 303 Beige Taupe! The Rimmel quad is really worth buying!)
  • Pierre René Precision Ink Eyeliner in Black
  • L’oreal Volume Million Lashes Waterproof in Black
  • Manhattan Eyebrow pencil in 99W

Lips

  • L’oreal Paris Glam Shine 6h Volumizer in 003 Pure Addict

And that’s it for the FOTD. Now for the cookies. Someone tried them and you should have seen his face when he tasted them. Hah, to die for. He was super impressed that something could taste this good.

alfajores

           Alfajores de Dulce de Leche

Here’s what you need to make a bit over 20 sandwich cookies.

  • 250ml corn starch
  • 200ml flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 100g butter (room temperature)
  • 150ml sugar
  • 3 egg yolks (if you have large eggs, use 2)
  • 400g can of condensed milk
  • icing sugar
  1. Put the can of condensed milk (the kind with real sugar and milk) into a cooking pot, covered with water. Boil for 2,5-3 hours to make it more solid. Be aware that the water will evaporate so be sure to add water from time to time. Let the can cool.
  2. Sift together corn starch, flour and baking powder.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar. Add egg yolks one at a time.
  4. Add sifted powder ingredients into the butter mixture with an electric mixer.
  5. Preheat oven 180* Celsius.
  6. Roll dough 6mm thick, use a cookie cutter or a cup to make even circles, mind you this dough is quite difficult to operate with, well at least for me. And stick them into the oven. Bake for 10-15 min, until bottoms are golden, yet the top is pale.
  7. Put a teaspoon of condensed milk between the cookies, sift some icing sugar on top and you have a gorgeous super-delicious treat. Don’t make them ahead, as the cookies will get too soft.

Stay cool,

Janne.

10 Favourite drugstore beauty products

Well.. I was tagged by Janne and as I don’t want to be rude.. here’s my favourites.

1. Himalaya Herbals Lip Balm

spd_20100613110004_b

I don’t know if this product actually fits here, but what the hell. This is my post, not yours.
Well.. I don’t own this product atm, but I had this lip balm about two years ago. I got this for Christmas and my dad bought it from some random store in a small village. (yes, my dad is a Santa Claus)
And now.. I see Himalaya Herbals skincare products on the counters all the time. They have a lot of different products (I own a skin cream), they’re quite affordable and I can only speak for the lip balm and the moisturiser, but both of them are GREAT.
The lip balm has an amazing scent, it’s extremely moisturising and makes your lips very soft. The only downside is that it feels so great on your lips that you have to re-apply it all the time.
(Luckily Janne informed me that Kaubamaja Ilumaailm sells that, so I will check that out and buy myself at least 2-3 tubes, ha)

2. The Body Shop Cranberry Joy Lip Balm

413H7E2qEPL

It’s from their Christmas collection or smth I think (I’m not sure, though)
Oh those The Body Shop scents. IT SMELLS SO GOOD. I guess I forced everybody to sniff it at some point. haha
Anyway, it has this very light pink tone and little shimmer in it. Because of the sweet taste and scent it always have to be near me. It makes my lips very soft and moisturises them.
But definitely it’s not a good product when your lips are chapped or damaged. Other than that, it’s amazing!

3. The Body Shop Tea Tree Face Mask

tea-tree-face-mask_l

I have used this mask for almost 6 months now. And I really like this product. It makes my skin very clean and leaves it fresh and cool. At first it really made my skin look better and everything. Later it probably didn’t work that well anymore because of the stress, but I hope it soon starts doing wonders again.
The scent isn’t actually that great. Because well.. it still is a tea tree mask not somekind of fruit-bomb-mask.

4. Manhattan Eyeshadow Base

Eyeshadow-Base-Manhattan

Now this is the only eyeshadow base I have ever used, but I’m pretty satisfied with it.
The texture is very creamy and maybe even a bit silky. And it really is long lasting as said on the package. A nice night out and my eyeshadow stays on perfectly.
It has this really weird and unpleasant scent though. But it is totally worth the price.

5. Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder

rimmel stay matte powder

“Up to 5 hours natural shine control with natural minerals.”
I have to agree. But not more than 5 hours.. which is okay considering the price. And I have to be honest, it’s the only powder that my skin actually likes so far and I have repurchased it so many times that I have lost the track.
Great powder, great price.

6. Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in 086 Sugar Plum

rimmel-lasting-finish-lipstick-in-sugar-plum-703828908

Oh my god, I’m a complete sucker when it comes to fuschias. But this one is my complete favourite. It’s such a pretty colour.
Now.. about the lipstick. It really stays on quite the long time. It soaks into your lips and you may have the feeling that you need to add an extra coat, but actually the colour is still there. It’s kind of matte so your lips have to be in a really good condition. Oh, and the scent! It has this amazing very sweet but not fruity scent. Oh how I love this lipstick.

7. MaxFactor Masterpiece mascara

570

Best. Mascara. Ever. I have already talked about this product, but oh well. It really is great. And it really is High Definition Mascara.. as said on the package. It defines you lashes, adds volume and length, very buildable also. I use the waterproof one and well.. obviously the lasting is amazing.

8. Artdeco Camoflage Cream

IMAG0185

As my good friend Liis once said: “It is excellent! Really hides everything you need to hide. All dark and uneven spots will be gone! Costs almost 6€ and is so worth it.”
It really is an amazing product. I guess I bought mine in autumn 2009 and I still have most of it left. So it is REALLY worth the price.

9. MaxFactor Xperience Weightless Foundation

max-factor-xperience-weightless-foundation_250x250

Another great product by MaxFactor. It really is weightless, but it also has quite nice coverage, not full coverage, but hey.. hence the name weightless.
SPF 10, lasting is excellent and what can I say. It’s Maxfactor.. I haven’t had any disappointments with them. HUGE thumbs up!

10. L’oréal Paris Volume Million Lashes

l-oreal-volume-million-lashes-mascara

I’ve had it three times.. the third one is the “extra-black” version and is still usable. So I thought that it must be a really good mascara since they don’t make it in waterproof (and this is usually my preference) and it probably deserves a place here too.
It’s the only mascara with a huge brush I actually have liked so far. It really makes your lashes look great, long and volumnious.
Basically the only downside is that they don’t make it in waterproof. *sadface*

So these were my favourites. I’ll tag Liis, hahah. Oh the fun. So you probably will see another favourites post. Try to bear with us.

Enjoy your weekend,

Andra

  • Grimas Fixing Powder
  • Bourjois Delice de Soleil bronzing powder in 14 olive/dark skin
  • Rimmel London powder blush in 016 Misty Rose

Here are the eye shadows.

eyeshadow160611SAM_0970

And I just applied some lip balm on the lips.

I’m really excited to do eye make up these last couple of days as I recently purchased Ecotools eye shadow brush kit. It’s really amazing and I can’t put them down.

I love that it’s raining right now, the weather announcement promised thunder but sadly enough there is no thunder to be heard or lightning to be seen. I really like the dark and murky weathers when I don’t have to go anywhere, I just sip my cup or earl grey with a splash of milk and eat my biscuits(I’m a true British at heart, lol), perfect day to catch up on my reading and blogging.

Have a nice one!

With love,

Janne.

10 Favourite drugstore beauty products

I was tagged by Kätlin (her blog is in Estonian) a week ago and finally I have made a verdict. So here are my top 10 beauty products (not just make up products).

Aaaaaaand drumroll, please.

maxfactormasterpiece

#1 Any Max Factor mascara.

I love pretty much every mascara I have ever tried from Max Factor. I mean, I could be their mascara spokes person or whatever. I have tried 2000 Calorie, 2000 Calorie Dramatic Effect, Masterpiece, Masterpiece Max, Beyond Length(not the best one out there), False Lash Effect, Lash Extension Effect (not a fan) and last but not least False Lash Effect Fusion. Currently I am using the one on the picture- Masterpiece Max and I am very satisfied with it.

beyu_blusher_13753_1

#2 BeYu Blusher in 115

I adore this mauve-y/rosy colour which has pretty intensive colour so it’s easy to make yourself look like a clown. Lasts quite well and did I mention that I love the colour??? Those who have read my blog and seen my YT videos might know that this is my ultimate go-to blush. One might even assume that this is my only blush, but no. It’s just a great one. You should go and swatch it one day.

Ok. I should stop being this annoying.. Let’s move on!

11046-2

#3 The Body Shop Blusher in 04 Golden Pink

Here it is next to THE Nars Orgasm. Pretty similar, eh? This blush is considered to be dupes for Nars Orgasm or Deep Throat. TBS one is on the right in the round pot and the photo is not mine sadly enough. I use this blush when the days get sunny and pretty so that the golden particles in it make my face gorgeous. Wouldn’t use it in the Estonian dark and ugly winters as it doesn’t suit indoors on pale skin on a grey school day in my opinion. So this is my summer blusher.

529-4514530IEUC888001M

#4 Rimmel London blush in 016 Misty Rose

Now this blush isn’t exactly packed with pigments, but thanks to that it gives a perfect radiance to your skin. Just a nice peachy sheen on your cheeks. Perfect for a clean everyday summer look.

148385_l

#5 L’oreal Paris  Quad Pro in 303 Beige Taupe

This is the most used eye shadow palette that I own. I used it for weeks straight after I had bought it. Even though I rarely use the upper peachy colour, I love this. I think this might be one of those rare eye shadows with which I might even hit the pan, especially the middle one.

file_11_28

#6 E. Funkhouser Brow Defining Palette in Brunette

I discovered that this is actually a discontinued product they sell on an Estonian online store MYLOOK for 3,20 Euros. You can’t even get 2 Fazer 200g chocolate bars for that money, but you will get 3 amazing colours which you may use for your brows or eyes. Long-lasting, the lightest colour is actually shimmery and very pretty. I have gotten a lot of compliments when I have worn this on my eyebrows. The brush is completely useful as well.

41Zr01XUDEL[1]

#7 Maybelline Color Sensational lipstick in 422 Coral Tonic

Hello, gorgeous! This is a great coral color, I have olive skin and blue eyes so it is PERFECT! Sadly it doesn’t last nearly as long as I would like it to last, but what ya gonna do?? I imagine that this colour might not suit everyone so be aware.

5033-5539-large

#8 Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Lip Balm

I really don’t wear lipsticks on a daily basis, as a matter a fact it has to be a pretty special occasion for me to wear lipsticks.. So I wear lip balms and this one is a great one if your lips are rather damaged. The smell was a bit quirky at first but I have gotten used to it and some have described it as a pleasant smell.

047207

#9 Neutrogena Visibly Clear Blackhead Eliminating Cleansing Lotion

Now this may seem as a very strong and harmful to your face (*coughs* like Clean & Clear Blackhead Cleaning Toner *coughs*). But this is pretty good. Doesn’t contain any parabenes, doesn’t have a very alcohol-y smell. But what I absolutely adore about this product is that it really gets the gunk of my skin, I mean I think “Oh yeah, my skin must be friggin clean now” and then I use this and the cotton pad will be really dirty. I have really noticed my skin improve with this.

380_NSU_Deep_Tan_Carotene_Sun_Lotion_200ml_pack1_png.ashx

#10 Nivea Sun Carotene Sun Lotion SPF6

I know that spf6 might seem little for some of you, but I apply it pretty often and as I am olive skinned, I don’t burn very easily as well (I do realize that I should be using one with bigger spf right now if I don’t want to look like the sole of a boot 10 years later). I have converted Andra into using this. Well I didn’t have to convert Andra, she just tried it once and had to buy it as well. This makes my skin achieve the darkest shade possible fastest. Doesn’t smell like coconuts, fruit or any other sun cream. Smells kind of manly to be honest. leaves your skin very soft and moisturised (extremely important when it comes to frying yourself in the warm sunlight).

And this is it, hope I was helpful.

And I will tag my co-blogger Andra. Show me what you’ve got!

With love,

Janne xo.

Forest Nymph look

Ach, filming this vid was a bit of a fail. So for those, who have not seen it on YouTube, I just have to say that the camera died in the middle of the look and I had to recharge it. And while the camera was charging I finished the eyes, so you can’t see me smudging the eye shadow and I changed my nail polish while waiting.

And here’s what I used:

Base:

Oriflame Dual Skin Corrector in Medium

Oriflame Skin Perfect foundation in Natural Beige

Artdeco Perfect Teint concealer in 9

Grimas Fixing Powder

Bourjois Délice de Soleil bronzing powder in 14 for tanned and olive skin

Rimmel London blush in 016 Misty Rose

Eyes:

Wet’n’wild Conceal All concealer palette- highlighter

GOSH eye shadow quad in 05 Rain Forest- yellow with green and gold speckles

Wet’n’Wild Mega Eyes eye shadow trio in 13 Green Moss- bright green

Oriflame Very Me eye shadow duo in Cocoa Glaze- darker brown

Oriflame Dare to be palette- champagne-y colour for brow bone highlight

Inscene Kajal Liner in 401- brassy shimmery colour

MaxFactor False Lash Effect Fusion in black

Lips:

Rimmel London lipstick in 700 Nude delight

Oriflame Dare to be palette- a blue-based red sheer lipgloss covered with a sheer orange lipgloss

And that should cover it.

Hope you are well!

Janne.

Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hours Foundation review

Firstly, why I bought it- I really needed a foundation, this was cheap, moisturizing, long-lasting was a plus, so was the Mineral Complex. It also claims to have a primer in it.
Secondly, what it claims to do- Naturally flawless looking, hydrating and lightweight feel. Sweat, heat and humidity proof for up to 25 hours. Transfer resistant( this means that it shouldn't leave marks on your clothes). Enriched with a revitalising mineral complex and moisturizing Aqua Primer. Skin feels energized and hydrated all day.
What it really does-Pros: OK it does last long, all day as a matter a fact. Doesn't dry skin, doesn't look masky. It does have a fairly good coverage, not super concealing, but I was satisfied. Cons: Does leave marks on clothes, I mean what foundation doesn't? I was expecting a dewy finish, but instead got shiny. This foundation is impossible to wear without powder to make it a bit more matte. I guess that's the energized glow and moisturizing properties- your face actually looks oily. The third con is the packaging. I mean wtf? I know that this foundation is super cheap, but I have seen even cheaper products with better dispensers. Hand lotions can have dispensers like this, not foundation. It's hard to control the amount of product you dispense and if you are not careful, there can be foundation like all over the place. And there's a different package for it on the Rimmel homepage.

Coverage 4,5 points out of 5
Packaging 2/5
Look 3,2/5
Resistance 4,7/5
Overall 3,6p out of 5.

Verdict- It's an OK foundation for the price and didn't make me break out, but there's so much to improve. The packaging is no where near satisfactory. All I have to say really is that it's OK, nothing more..

Shopping spree!

Hello! Sorry for not posting in a while, but i'm making it up with a longer post. So I got my paycheck for January already and had to spend it! I only needed a foundation, but ended up with.. more.
Firstly, the much needed foundation. I purchased the Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation that claims to be sweat, heat and humidity proof for up to 25! hours. The longlasting factor was one of my concerns- long lasting usually also means that it can be a bit too dry. I really didn't have anything in mind when I went to the drugstore. The shopping assistant just explained that it was the newest one there. Foundation for me just means that it conceals minor skin defects, evens out the color and uhm thats it. I would also prefer a dewy finish. So when purchasing it I didn't really care what I ended up with as long as it didn't clog my pores. This has a mineral complex and moisturizing Aqua primer in it. Hmm. Anyway, here's the pic

So this set my back about 8,35 Euros. Cheap.

The second thing which I needed was a cleansing lotion. I opted for one from a pharmacy because those tend to be more effective and don't dry as much. I've got kind of a dry skin but still pimples and blackheads do happen. this was 8,31 Euros.

So the third thing was not so important, but still. My school bag zipper has been on the fritz for some time already and today it decided to work even worse. I had to shop while my bag was fully open. Firstly, this is oh so suspicious and secondly, as I wore it over the shoulder, so that it rests on the back, someone could take my wallet, phone or my precious, precious textbooks. So I decided to buy a new bag. I got a light brown one, it looks cool, is friggin huge and very practical. I kinda wasn't sure about the purchase as all of my boots are black and light brown and black is surely not a "safe" combo. This was super cheap for a bag and cost just under 10 Eur.

But alas! the discounts were so tempting that I had to stop and check out the discount make up. Soo I ended up with a Wet and Wild Powder Foundation, Wet and Wild Mega Eyes eyeshadow trio in Aqua Marine and Beautyuk Eya Dust in 1. They were really cheap. I mean the powder cost 2 Euros, the eyeshadow 1 Eur and the eye dust 0,96 Eur.

As you can see I taped most of the holes from which the powder comes out, otherwise the whole place would be covered in it.

So here are the swatches.

And as I purchased the powder, I realised I didn't have a powder brush, well I had a Kabuki one, but I used that for my blush. So instead of buying a powder blush I bought a blush one. My first good quality brush. An Artdeco one. Natural bristles, soft, soft, soft and the best thing about it.. It liberates product evenly. I got a 5% off, it cost me 6,37 Eur. I was a little bit disappointed in it because I was expecting for the brush to be a bit slanted like usually blush bristles are, but the straight end is good aswell.

All in all a pretty good Tuesday I'd say. I also did a look with all of the products I purchased. Here it is.

The eyeshadows are very pretty, the brown one has a cool greenish undertone so perfect for a little more special than an au naturel, but still very wearable. So welcome home lovely make up, mommy loves you very much.

So wishing all of you a nice Tuesday.
Janne.

Christmas eyes meet Artdeco Glam Stars Shimmer Cream

Last night, when I tried to prepare this post in my head, I found out that as much as I hate Christmas.. I love make-up. Which is why my eyes had to look fabulous on this extremely annoying day. Luckily this Christmas madness is now over and we all can return to our normal lives. For me it’s starting the day with a question: “Which eye shadow I should use today?” Well.. now I’m lying. 25th of December was actually the last time I used a eye shadow or proper make-up. And luckily I tried to capture my artwork. Enjoy!
 PC250438PC250446

For my face I used Artdeco Double Finish powder cream foundation in light cashmere, Artdeco Camouflage Cream in beige apricot, Rimmel Stay Matte pressed powder in Sandstorm (004).
For the eyes, I applied Teeez! eye shadow in Outta Control 02 all over the lid, then covered it with a silver eye shadow. Then I used a black eye shadow for the outer corners and dispersed it a little. After that I added a line of L’oreal Super Liner in Silver Black near my eyelashes and also partly covered the black eye shadow with it to make it more concrete and this way it lasts longer. I also used a little white eye shadow on my upper eyelid. For my lashes I used L’oreal Paris Volume Million Lashes Extra-Black mascara. Actually later I added Artdeco Glam Stars Shimmer Cream nr 3 to make it more glittery, but that was after I took the photos.

Actually Artdeco Glam Stars Shimmer Cream is a product I also wanted to talk about. I got it as a Christmas present and it’s simply amazing!
First of all, it’s a MUST HAVE if your mornings are as busy as mine are. Yo60952155u can just use it as an eye shadow and because the texture is very soft, it takes only few seconds to apply. Mine is silver so it’s both shiny and humble at the same time and that’s why it’s perfect for everyday make-up. More than that you can basically use it wherever you like. It just gives your make-up that little something which is sometimes missing.
The only downside is that because it’s so soft and smooth the glitter might get stuck and that’s just not nice. But other than that it’s one of my favourites.
